More Than Business: What Loanright Got Up To This September
Table of Contents
September was a big one for the Loanright team, and not because of rate movements.
In the space of two weeks, we swapped the office for a spring gala and then fired up the BBQ for a cause close to a lot of hearts. Two very different days, one simple belief behind both: a local business should give back to the community that backs it.
Here’s a look at what we got up to, and why it matters to us.
Dressing Up for a Good Cause: The Wishlist Spring Carnival
For over 10 years, we’d turned up to the Wishlist Spring Carnival as guests. This year, we wanted to do more.
Wishlist raises funds for Sunshine Coast and Gympie hospitals, and it’s a cause that sits close to home. None of us know when we’ll need the care it helps fund. It could be a family member, a friend or one of our team. When that day comes, we want the best possible care available right here.
So on Friday 4 September, we sponsored the auctions at this year’s Spring Carnival Gala. They’re the part of the day that brings the energy, and they raise some of the biggest money of the event.
“The auctions add a heap of fun to the day, but more importantly, they contribute such a significant amount to the total funds raised. When the opportunity came up to get behind them, it was pretty hard to say no,” says Luke.
Thank you to everyone who bid big and helped raise an incredible amount for an incredible cause.
Want to hear more about Wishlist’s impact? Luke sat down with Brendan Hogan ahead of the Carnival to chat about what the Foundation means for our community which you can watch here.
Firing Up the BBQ for Grab Life by the Balls
Twelve days later, the gowns were swapped for aprons.
On Wednesday 16 September, we hosted a staff BBQ as part of Grab Life by the BBQ, the annual fundraiser for men’s mental health charity Grab Life By The Balls. The whole thing is built on one simple idea: mateship matters.
A snag, a chat and a genuine check-in with the people around you can go a long way. It was a small thing to do, but it mattered to us.
To go a bit deeper on why we got behind it, Luke grabbed Sam from Grab Life By The Balls for a proper chat which you can watch here.
If you’d like to get behind it too, you can donate directly here.
Why We Do It
For us, community work isn’t a marketing activity. It’s an expression of who we are.
Our team is filled with lifelong Sunshine Coast locals, and the Coast has backed Loanright for over a decade. Showing up for local causes is how we give some of that back.
Whether it’s a spring gala or a Wednesday sausage sizzle, we’ll keep turning up.
Next Up: Legacy Lunch 3
That same belief is what started our Legacy Lunch. Over the past two years, the Sunshine Coast business community has helped raise $74,190 for Destiny Rescue and helped rescue 41 children.
This year’s lunch is on Friday 23 October at Avani Hotel Mooloolaba, with guest speaker Jessica Watson OAM. We’re aiming to reach $100,000 raised, and with it, help rescue 10 more children.
The lunch is officially sold out (thank you, Sunshine Coast!). If you’d still like to donate, stay tuned on our socials. We’ll be sharing more information soon.
